"The Couch Movers"

With Tunderpeter and Tunderjoke in the leading role.

I've got a couch, including an extra cover and a footstool for only 60 euro's on Marktplaats.nl!!! Went to Maarssenbroek in my mothers car with my brother driving, to pick it up. It fitted perfectly in the car altough the trunk couldn't close, so we tight it up with some rope and hoped it wouldn't rain to hard on the way to my home.
We got there safe and the couch was still dry. The real challenge lay in the two spiral staircases we had to take to get to my room...
The first staircase was easy. With some wrestling we got the couch up in about 15 minutes. The second spiral staircase however was a different story... It was just impossible to get it up there! My brother saw two solutions:
A: Cut the fabric in some places and try to take the couch apart...
B: Store the couch at somebody elses place for the time being...

Great ideas... but I wasn't really excited about either one... I really wanted my couch and in one piece if possible!

So, eager to find a solution meeting my wishes more, I went up to the bathroom and looked out of the window onto the roof terrace, seeing a vision of lots of rope, pushing, pulling, a dangerously dangling couch and some people being crushed... But I thought it would be worth to try... So we did.
My brother tied the couch up in all the right places, so it wouldn't be too unstable. Such a wonderfull thing to have a sailor in the family, who knows all the right knots and stuff :-)
I got to the bathroom and pulled the rope, while my brother and roommate pushed the couch up. When it was high enough for me to hold it steady and my tall roommate to still hold it downstairs, my brother ran up and helped me pull the couch trough the window, into the bathroom, or actually into the bathtub. And that was it. It took us only 5 minutes to get it up there, while we've been trying the stairs for about half an hour! Why didn't we think of this in the first place? Ah well, it doesn't really matter at all. I've got my couch. My room looks great and cozy or as we say in Dutch 'gezellig'. I love it, can't wait to get home tonight to knit on my couch while watching tv... sigh...

Stressful knitting...

Knitting is an activity that most of the time is very relaxing. The last couple of days however, my needles have been ticking very fast and stressy... A couple of weeks ago I decided to give my latest project a deadline, Oktober 8th, when I'm having a jobinterview.

As an art-therapist I like to look a bit artistic, and what looks more artsy then a handmade (knit, crocheted or sewn) piece of clothing? I can't really think of something. That's why I thought I should wear my handknitted tunic-cardigan-dress-kind-of-thing to that particular interview.
Of course hasty knitting causes mistakes and I had to frog the whole upper body yesterday... But I wouldn't be me, deadliner as I am, if I didn't manage to almost complete the upper body again in only one evening, during "Private Practice", "The Co-assistent" and "Men in Trees".
Got up before the crack of dawn this morning to finish it. It's being blocked on my bed as we speak right now and I hope it's dry this evening, so I will be able to go to sleep tonight...
Just have to weave in the ends, sew some buttons on and chrochet a little edge around the neckline and sleeves. I should get that done this evening or otherwise at the last in the train to Dordrecht tomorrow...

Tik...tak...tik...tak...tik...tak...tik...tak... says the clock...

Remember the promise I made

So here are my latest knitting pictures

I named this piece 'Mr. Snuggles' because I can snuggle my feet or belly up against it and keep warm all night. Here Mr. Snuggles is posing with 'Bear', my 20-something years old bear, made by my mom for 'Sinterklaas'.

This is my perfect blue 'Springtime in Philladelphia'. Great knit, lovely yarn, fabulous color.

I think I'm good at this...

Last weekend I was ill, which gave me time to knit, and knit, and knit some more. I don't want to brag, but I managed to finish TWO projects!!!! If there are any people left who think I can't finish a job: I just proved you wrong!!! ;-)))

My first finished project is my lace-'Perfect blue springtime in Utrecht'-hat, which turned out to be a bit to wide... which sucks! I'll try to adjust it, maybe frog the ribbed edge and knit it a little tighter.

My second project is a warm-bottle-cozy which I started in januari and then laid aside. Since I had a terrible stomach-ache this weekend, I really got motivated to finish it. It's pretty perfect actually, it works excactly as it's supposed to: protect my skin from burn and giving my bottle a less rubbery-touch.

Pictures will follow...
